Microsoft announced Windows 8 Release Preview last week, and has made it available for free download in more than 14 languages. An increasing number of users, who tried out Windows 8 Preview, have provided a positive feedback, out of which the general feedback stated – “Yes, I will upgrade to Windows 8“.
Along with the announcement of release preview build, Microsoft also announced the upgrade prices for Windows 7 users. Users purchasing a PC or a laptop (with Windows 7 pre-installed) starting June 2 will be eligible for a discounted upgrade price of Rs. 699. However, PCs need to have a valid Windows 7 licenses to avail this offer. That is, you need to have a valid Windows 7 OEM Certificate of Authenticity and product key, and preinstalled with:
- Windows 7 Home Basic
- Windows 7 Home Premium
- Windows 7 Professional, or
- Windows 7 Ultimate.
The promotional price is limited to one upgrade offer per PC purchased, and a maximum limit of five upgrade offers per customer.
With the Windows Upgrade Offer, Indian consumers can get a downloadable upgrade to Windows 8 Pro for an estimated retail price of just Rs. 699/-.
The Windows Upgrade Offer is valid from June 2, 2012 to January 31, 2013 and is redeemable before the program expiration at the end of February 2013. Users who register for the Windows Upgrade Offer will be able to download Windows 8 starting the day it’s made generally available. The upgrade can be installed on any eligible and compatible Windows PC and comes with 90 days of support from Microsoft.
In simpler words, if you buy an authenticated Windows 7 PC anytime between June 2, 2012 and January 31, 2013, you will be provided with a download link of Windows 8 and upgrade your computer for just Rs. 699, roughly equivalent to US$13 (as per today’s conversion rates).
How to redeem this offer?
- If you’re eligible for the promotional Windows 8 upgrade offer, then need to register for the Windows Upgrade Offer through this website by February 28, 2013. Once done, you will receive a registration confirmation email.
- When Windows 8 is released for general public, you will receive another email with a promotion code and instructions for purchasing and downloading the software. The promotion code will be redeemed during the upgrade ordering process to receive the promotional price.
- You will be able to purchase a downloadable version of Windows 8 Pro. An optional installation DVD is available for an additional fee, plus shipping and any applicable taxes or duties. Customers can also choose to create their own installation media on DVD or USB media after downloading Windows 8.
