Max Payne 3 – Release Date and System Requirements

Max Payne 3 is the third instalment of Max Payne series developed by Rockstar Games. The game is set eight years after the events of the last instalment. Max Payne 3 is a single-player, third-person shooter game which will be available for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Microsoft Windows.

In past two instalments, Max Payne was working for New York City government as FBI agent. This game shows that the troubled Max Payne quits his job and leaves New York City. The game is entirely depicted in Sao Paulo, Brazil, where Max Payne works as a private security and is hired by a wealthy industrialist, Rodrigo Branco. When muggers target the family and kidnaps Rodrigo’s wife under his security measures, all hell breaks loose for Max Payne. He is forced to a combat mission where he has to save his clients and clear his name to get rid of people who have haunted him for far too long. Rockstar Games has opted James McCaffrey to voice Max Payne again. James McCaffrey has also voiced for previous Max Payne instalments; Max Payne and Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne.

Max Payne 3

According to IGN, this is the first Max Payne title to feature multiplayer mode called “Payne Killer”. It will feature a reward and levelling system, clans and strategic load-out options. The multiplayer system will cast the battles showing mission-based; other types of features will include ‘Gang-War’ the central theme of the multiplayer of Max Payne 3 and each of them is different from one another.

Like the previous two instalments, this game too has the ‘bullet time’ feature. It is a form of slow motion where Max is able to perform stunts to dodge bullets. The performance is slowed down to such an extent that the movements of the bullets can be seen by naked eye. This vital feature is the main reason for the success of Max Payne and Max Payne 2.

Development of Max Payne 3

In an interview with Gamasutra in November 2011, lead writer Dan Houser of Rockstar Games and the writer of Max Payne 3 explained why it took them eight years to follow up from the previous successful instalmentHe said-

Basically we have been meaning to start [Max Payne 3] for a while, but we have limited bandwidth and limited studios, and more games to make than we’ve started. So suddenly it was a good slot. Also, contrary to a lot of people, we like to take a little bit of time at the end of a game before starting a sequel, so we can wait for the excitement or disappointment and everything else of the experience to shake down and really see what we should do in the next game.

The co-writer for the series, Sam Lake, stated that the game would maintain its “dark and gritty” origins and that fans of the series would be in for a surprise.

Reports say that a research team from Rockstar Games visited Sao Paulo to study their culture and environment to adapt the same for the look and feel of the game.

Max Payne 3 Release Date

The release date of Max Payne 3 was very fickle. It was first scheduled for release in 2009, however, Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive (distributor of the game) disappointed its fans by delaying the release of the game. Later, Rockstar said that the game was still in development by exhibiting two new screenshots. On September 8, 2011 Rockstar officially announced a March 2012 release date for the game, with a debut trailer released on September 14, 2011. In January 2012, Take-Two Interactive delayed the game by two months from its original March release date to May 15th 2012. Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick commented on the delay-

We do not take changes to our release schedule lightly, and this short delay will ensure that Max Payne 3 delivers the highest quality, groundbreaking entertainment experience that is expected from our Company. Max Payne 3 promises to be one of our most exciting releases to date, and we are confident that consumers will once again be amazed by Rockstar’s ability to take interactive entertainment to another level.
