The much awaited gadget of 2012 – the upcoming new iPhone 5, is just few months away to be launched in the market challenging its competitor Samsung Galaxy S3. However, for this year, the buck stops here. The new iPhone is said to be one hundred times better than Samsung Galaxy S3 and HTC One X, which are currently the top-notch smartphones in the market.
Would Apple name it as ‘The New iPhone’ or simply iPhone 5? The answer to this question has been a mystery for a quite some time and still is. When Apple released the next generation iPad, they named it as The New iPad. The talks in the grapevine indicate that Apple would name the successor of iPhone 4S as The New iPhone since many consider iPhone 4S as the 5th Apple iPhone product.
The New iPhone has been packaged with remarkable features and some of the specs of iPhone 4S have been tweaked a little. Here’s a list of unofficial specifications and characteristics of the upcoming iPhone 5.
Sources have cited that Sony has been developing the display for the iPhone 5 since February 2012. It comes with the retina quality display, which has enough pixel density; even the human eye is unable to notice pixilation at a typical viewing distance. The retina quality display is used for several Apple products, including the iPhone 4S, iPod Touch, the New iPad, and MacBook Pro.
Hearsay by various technology geeks and bloggers claims that The New iPhone will feature a larger, 4-inch screen. According to a few sources, Apple is expanding the screen size “to support the tablet PC market as the vendor only has a 9.7-inch iPad in the market.” However, in March 2012, new reports suggested that The New iPhone would come sporting a larger 4.6-inch retina display and can also display 3D content.
iOS 6 to Power the iPhone 5
iOS 6 will be the operating system for The New iPhone. It is the latest generation of Apple’s mobile software for iPod touch and The New iPad. With iOS 6 users can experience better enhancement of Siri, iMaps, iBooks, AV player/editor, iCloud cloud service, Safari web browser, Twitter and Facebook integration. However, iOS 6 will not feature Google’s YouTube app.
Samsung is the leading manufacturer of Chipsets (processors) for Apple. It has previously manufactured A4 and A5 for Apple iPad and Apple iPhone 4S respectively. However, the speculations indicate that Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. are said to be in charge of producing Apple’s chipsets – A6, the newly improved chipset for The New iPhone.
Rumours also suggest that Apple dumped Samsung following multiple patent disputes, and the company would instead utilize TSMC for production of its next-generation A6 processor. The A6 processor will be of 28-nanometer SoCs (System on a Chip) that features dual or quad-cores and ARM-based architecture.
NFC, Battery, and other things
Each and every iPhone aficionados are hoping that The New iPhone will feature Near Field Communication (NFC) technology, a feature that will make The New iPhone a portable ATM machine. However, several technology blogs including CNET have claimed that The New iPhone won’t feature the NFC.
According to the popular Apple blog 9to5Mac, the iPhone 5 will don a Li-Po 1440 mAh Standard Battery which slightly better than iPhone 4S’s battery. The battery in iPhone 4S and iPhone 4 had the voltage of 3.7 volts. Apparently sources of CNET have cited that The New iPhone’s battery voltage might be of 3.8 volts. It is also reported that the iPhone 5 will have a smaller SIM card slot (smaller than iPhone 4S’s SIM slot). Apple has been pushing the SIM card technology as a standard by making it smaller and smaller every time.
Price and Release Date
The phone will be released in three models, that is, 16 GB, 32 GB and 64 GB. The prices of the current Apple iPhone 4S are $685, $770 and $875 respectively. Based on iPhone 4S’s prices we can guess the prices for the 3 models of The New iPhone. The phones might be priced 770$ for 16 GB, 875$ for 32 GB and 950$ for 64 GB. These prices are estimated and not official.
The new iPhone will believed to be unveiled on September 12, 2012 and will be made available in stores from Friday, September 21. Still there is no official word or confirmation from Apple about the unveiling of the new iPhone 5.
